Clears Heat, Expels Toxins, Cools the Blood Lung heat and/or heat-toxins attacking the throat presenting with sore throat, swollen lymph glands, cough with thick yellow mucus, stuffy nose with thick yellow mucus, acute flare-up of chronic asthma with yellow phlegm, which may be accompanied by fever, thirst, constipation. Also for damp-heat and heat-toxins in the lower jiao presenting with painful, burning or incomplete urination, diarrhea, or dysentery. Useful as a general toxic heat clearing combination that can be combined with a targeting formula to direct actions to a particular organ system. Tongue: red, with a yellow coat Pulse: rapid, slippery common cold, influenza, pharyngitis, laryngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, sinusitis, otitis media, gingivitis, pulmonary abscess, pneumonia, encephalitis, tuberculosis, urinary tract infection, cystitis, dysentery, hepatitis, herpes simplex, herpes zoster, acute gastroenteritis, diverticulitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, various types of dermatoses, boils, impetigo, acute viral or bacterial infections 3 tablets, 3 x day. Administer half an hour before or one hour after eating. In acute or severe disorders, dosage may be increased to 4-6 tablets every 2-4 hours, then reduced to a maintenance dose as the treatment takes effect. May be used short-term for few days to a few weeks. Once the acute symptoms are resolved, this formula should be discontinued and replaced with a milder formula. This small potent formula may be combined with other formulas whenever heat toxin clearing is desired. Monitor for signs of cold, such as epigastric pain or indigestion, as this cold and bitter formula can easily damage the Spleen and Stomach Qi.
